The likes of Lampard, Terry, Cole, Drogba, etc would have all been gradually phased out if there was a single manager in place for a number of years.
However, with every new manager, they have had to fall back on these players to win. Together with the press, it had boosted their egos. Any manager coming in that try’s to implement change and move this aging lot to the side is dealt with a reluctance and player power not seen in other clubs.
They are confrontational and unwilling. The results on the pitch suffer as consequence. The manager gets the blame.
Villa Boas is a good manager with a progressive style. What he lacks is experience. He wants to play a high line, which means a midfield that needs to press high and be mobile.
These players needs shifting out, they are destroying any advancement in the squad and progression on the pitch. No player should ever be greater than the club, but this lot think they are. Be dignified and listen to the manager and step aside.
On another note. Why would CFC appoint Rafa Benitez. His record is fantastic, but his style is similar to Villa Boas. i.e, tactics and micromanagement of everything each player does. He is a perfectionist. If the CFC players are unhappy with Villa Boas they will be doubly unhappy with Benitez.
There is not enough time for any new manager to make any significant change for the rest of the season and ultimately would mean the players had won again in throwing out a manger they didn’t like.
Chelsea need to stick with Villa-Boas and the players that don’t like his approach, need to look elsewhere.
